Weather in the low 90s... rode to Kawaii's

So my bike had a flat tire from two weeks ago. I was riding around Old Settler's and ran over something that deflated my tire in, like, 5 seconds. Since it was a nice evening, though, I didn't mind walking my bike back to the truck.

Since then, I've been griping about my knees hurting too much, but watching the Tour de France really pumps me up. I have to ride my bike. Luckily, we are little people at home, and so my daughter's bike fits me fine. Rode down to Buck's Bikes, grabbed a tire patch kit (and looked at the shiny new bikes), and rode home to fix mine.

The kids and I eventually made our way down to the library -- here's our route -- and then to one of our favorite stops, Kawaii's. I found this photo of it taken by Randi S.

We parked our bikes by that water hose coil thingy and we sat and enjoyed our icy treats. We had 3 medium raspas (that's Spanish for shaved ice): a watermelon for me, a maui-wowie for Soriah, and a tiger's blood for Dante. Here's a pic of the menu (photo by RegiMcGfromSoCal):

As we sat there enjoying our raspas under the hot Texas sun, I realized I could easily access most of Round Rock on my bike. I know plenty of back roads and side roads in Round Rock. If I keep making my way downtown, I know how to access the McNeil Bridge and watch the bats. I know a residential route to get up to La Frontera and enjoy coffee at Barnes and Noble, a lunch at a restaurant, or stop at GameStop. Riding down to the Round Rock at Memorial Park is simple enough. Old Settler's Park can be accessed, too; so can the Duck Pond down Hairy Man Road, and that connects to the larger county parks leading up to Parmer. If Saccone's Pizza is still in business, I know how to get there. The Pacific Star has great oysters and cheap beer. Juarez Bakery has the best breakfast tacos. Danny's Music is not too far off. The movie theater is a bit risky but doable.

And on and on. It's amazing how much stuff is accessible if you stay in the city. I'll keep posting my meanderings here. Who knows? Maybe I'll inspire a few people to join me on a few rides all around Round Rock.
